HELPING YOU BREATHE CLEAN AIR ONBOARD

MARINE SPECIALIZED YACHT DUCT CLEANING

Yacht air duct cleaning has become a crucial component of a well-planned maintenance program. Air ducts on board marine vessels in poor and dirty condition provide an ideal breeding ground for mold, bacteria, and musty odors. As a result, they can cause great exposure to indoor air pollutants. In addition, yachts and boats undergoing a refit and even new constructions are surrounded by painting, varnishing, sanding, carpentry, and metalwork, among other activities. These create dust, debris, and other contaminants that will enter the ductwork.

Our yacht air duct cleaning process involves the sanitization of the supply and return air ducts (end-to-end) as an essential part of our protocol of services. It also includes other factors associated with airflow distribution throughout the vessel, like the supply and return air plenums, air vents, air grilles and diffusers, extractor fans, transition boxes, and louvered vents. It is essential to realize that air duct cleaning alone will not be effective. Failure to perform comprehensive sanitation of all the other components of the vessel’s HVAC can result in re-contamination of the entire system.

“It makes no sense to clean ductwork if air handlers are left untouched. Air ducts deliver exactly what an air handler drives; if the ductwork is dirty, so are the air handler’s guts” – EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency)

Unfortunately, in recent years, we have witnessed the emergence of ‘overnight specialists’ within the yachting industry, offering yacht air duct cleaning and mold remediation services completed in just a few hours. These practices can create a more significant mold spore spread and severely damage the air ducts and other parts of the system leading to high-cost repairs.

At Bluestar Marine, all our yacht air duct cleaning technicians are licensed and NADCA-certified (National Air Duct Cleaners Association). In addition, we are the only marine contractor with strategic partnerships with the most prominent manufacturers of the latest-generation duct cleaning equipment in the US.
